about Jacob de Baan

Jacob de Baan is a Dutch creative professional with more than 25 years of experience in product design and visual communication.
He has a track record as an art director and project leader for companies and institutions in developing processes of new corporate identities. This includes defining core values, selecting design agencies, preparing briefs, as well as providing communication and marketing principles. Among his clients are VAN GOGH MUSEUM, RIJKSMUSEUM and HEINEN DELFTS BLAUW.

He is passionate about lighting and his designs are commercially commissioned by international design labels such as POLS POTTEN, DARK and NEW DUIVENDRECHT. Jacob de Baan: “Lighting circumstances are dynamic and depend on the sun’s changing altitude- and color. My approach is to translate this natural experience into corresponding design solutions. Some of the designs offer a cool light that comes from above and therefore intended for daytime use. Other lamps deliver reddish and lower positioned light for late night use. In my designs I pay particular attention to ecology and sustainability. No glue or screws are used, allowing easy recycling. The fixtures are efficiently packed in flat boxes for light and efficient transportation.”

Jacob de Baan is a coordinator and teacher at the ROYAL ACADEMY OF ART THE HAGUE (KABK). He is a member of the RAAD VAN ADVIES of HOGESCHOOL AMSTERDAM as well as a member of the RAAD VAN BEROEP of DUTCH DESIGNERS ASSOCIATION (BNO).
